Angelina Jolie’s speech on domestic abuse has gone viral again.
By Srimoyee Chowdhury: Actress Angelina Jolie has gained much recognition for expressing the plight of people who suffer abuse, political refugees and many others. The former Goodwill Ambassador representing UNHCR delivered a speech on Capitol Hill in Washington DC, where she highlighted the dire need for an adequate law to renew the Violence Against Women Act.
Now, a Twitter user shared the speech and it went viral. In the clip, Jolie can be seen speaking to senators in Congress about the law.
“The reason so many people struggle to get out of abusive situations is that they have been made to feel worthless,” Jolie said in the speech. “When there is silence from a Congress too busy to renew the Violence Against Women Act for a decade, that sense of futility is reinforced. You think, ‘I guess my abuser is right, I guess I’m not worth much,’” she added.
“This speech by Angelina Jolie on domestic violence and child abuse is so powerful, and she and her children are among the millions of victims and survivors who had to suffer the abuse in silence,” the caption read.
