Everything you need to know before watching Andora on Disney+

Lucasfilm’s first major Star Wars series just recently aired as Obi-Wan Kenobibut what could be one of Disney+’s most ambitious series is just around the corner. Andor is (another) prequel story set during the era of the Galactic Empire and the Rebellion, this time focusing on Diego Luna’s spy character Cassian Andor from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Stories.

It will detail his life as well as the new supporting cast in the years leading up to the events. Rogue One, but its seasonal structure can be so ambitious. Aside from a seemingly stronger VFX than what Disney+ recently released, Andor was essentially conceived as a series of 24 episodes evenly spread over two seasons. It’s somewhat refreshing that the big-budget franchise show has a clear vision from behind the scenes, and that’s what stands in the universe before it premieres.

Setting the scene and timeline

The studio is no stranger to milking post-Revenge of the Sith and preNew Hope deadline for all that’s worth but Andor let’s hope to use our genre approach to make the most of this era. Once The Mandalorian managed to mix science fiction with the western genre, Andor advertised as a Star Wars-themed spy thriller set five years before Rogue One and – by extension – Star Wars. Episode IV – A New Hope.

It looks more stern than what we might see, or at least about the same down to earth tone. The Mandalorian. This down-to-earth atmosphere could have created a more intimate character-driven narrative, with Andor opening in the early days of the Rebellion as they try to create momentum for what the original Star Wars trilogy expanded into.

But although the first season will start five years before Rogue One as well as New Hope, it will specifically cover the canon in just one year. This leaves the last 12 episodes of the series in the upcoming season 2 to cover the remaining four years. According to showrunner Tony Gilroy in an interview Total FilmSeason 2 will be split into four blocks of three episodes, each of which shifts the timeline up one year until it transitions into Rogue One.

Star Wars is one of several mainstream media franchises with intimidating layers of lore, but AndorThe structure of the series seems like an interesting way to make it easier for viewers to understand what is essentially a prequel within a prequel.

Who is Cassian Andor?

Refining the protagonist, Cassian Andor is a much newer addition to the larger Star Wars canon given the franchise’s 45-year history. And while the post-acquisition state of the franchise was not very good due to the disparate sequel trilogy, Gareth Edwards Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Stories was retroactively considered the strongest of the Disney-era group, and was largely defined by the original characters.

Rebel spy Diego Luna was one of several team members complementing Felicity Jones’ revived freedom fighter Jyn Erso, and he was hailed as an outstanding performer, despite the film itself shedding little light on his backstory. Cassian lost his father to the Empire, and one of the few things that is known about his origins in Rogue Onejoined Rebellion at just six years old as a thief turned spy and assassin.

FROM Andor is a prequel to the prequel, just by watching the movies, the audience will know that Cassian’s fate ends in tragedy and great sacrifice along with his comrades at the end Rogue One. The ending of this movie takes place just a few minutes before the start New Hopewhere Princess Leia Organa is kidnapped to retrieve the Death Star blueprints that Cassian Andor and Jyn Erso died to steal for the Rebellion on the Imperial-occupied planet of Scarif.

Oscar Effects in Rogue One

Rogue One have succeeded by upping the stakes on a result that most of us are already familiar with and seem painstakingly sincere. This was achieved in part by the more serious and down-to-earth tone of the Star Wars-themed war epic and heist, where the final act heightened the tension and sense of loss, and the sense of dread came to a head.

However, one of the criticisms of the film was that having so many characters for one film prevented too much from exploring any of them outside of Jyn Erso. Andor will be introduced in a similar way by a grown-up Cassian, as the series begins just half a decade before his sacrifice, but fans can probably expect to be fed bits and pieces of the battle-hardened rebel spy’s origins through flashback sequences.

And although Rogue One was more of a military epic, while Andor will draw on the spy side of the Galactic Civil War, fans will likely be safe in expecting the same level of guts as the storytelling – just like those who saw the special episode preview at the end Rogue OneA recent theatrical reissue must know. Similarly, viewers should see a welcome dose of political intrigue as Senator Mon Mothma returns to deal with the dark machinations of Imperial politics while secretly assisting the Rebellion.

Andor will definitely play in a familiar sandbox in terms of timeline and setting, but all of those creative elements going into the series should allow it to carve out something refreshing in that familiarity.
