There is some spicy news for an upcoming Samsung smartphone. No, it’s not the soon-to-be-launched Galaxy S23 series, which is all set to debut on February 1st. The rumors are about the Galaxy Z Fold 5, which is expected to be released in the second half of 2023. Based on the rumor, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 might come with a 108MP main rear camera.

According to a new report from Vietnamese publication The Pixel, Samsung may ditch the 50MP camera for the 108MP main camera currently found on the Galaxy S22 Ultra. This in turn would make the device a bit heavier and it will weigh around 275 grams (which is a bit hard to believe). For comparison, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 weighs 263 grams.

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 is rumored to have a 108MP main camera and a 64MP telephoto camera

This weight increase will be partially due to the rumored new 108MP camera. This is great news (although nothing concrete and just a rumor), especially since foldable phones are often criticized for their less-than-stellar camera performance. Not that they’re bad by any means, they’re just not up to the low premium phones, but they’re priced higher than them.

It is rumored that not only the main Galaxy Z Fold 5 camera, but also the telephoto camera will get a boost. According to reports, the 108MP main snapper will be accompanied by a 64MP camera with 2x optical zoom and a 12MP ultrawide shooter on the Galaxy Z Fold 5. But we should take this information with a grain of salt as Samsung has updated cameras on the Galaxy Z Fold 4 last year. The company’s track record indicates that we shouldn’t expect a major overhaul of the camera two years in a row.

Other details about the Galaxy Z Fold 5 include that the phone will come with a dedicated S-Pen slot and implement a new hinge design to reduce the screen crease and let the phone fold completely flat.
