Either way, there’s a way to fix this, and here’s how to do it with the most commonly used web browsers on your laptop.

Chrome browsers

First, update your Google Chrome browser.

Before you see my tips below, be sure to follow these instructions to update your Google Chrome browser. About every six weeks (if not sooner) Google updates its browser and updates it frequently with security updates and other small cosmetic changes.

On Mac

How to Remove Autofill in Google Chrome Browser (Mac)

  • Open Chromium
  • Click the button in the upper right corner of the screen 3 vertical dots (should be next to your profile picture)
  • Click Settings
  • On the left panel, select Autocomplete
  • A list of items using autocomplete will appear (for example, password manager, payment methods, etc.). Click on each one you don’t want to use autocomplete and turn everything off

How to Clear Existing Autofill Data in Chrome (Mac)

  • Open Chromium
  • Click the button in the upper right corner of the screen 3 vertical dots (should be next to your profile picture)
  • Choose Historyand choose History again from the menu that appears
  • In the panel on the left, select Clear browsing data
  • click Advanced Tab
  • in Time range menu, select All time (this step may depend on which version of Chrome you have)
  • Make sure Form autofill data marked. Check any other options you want to clear.
  • Choose Clear Data

  • Open Chromium Appendix
  • Click 3 points in the lower right corner of the screen and select Settings
  • Choose Ways of payment
  • Switch off Save and fill Payment methods and press Made
  • Do the same for Password Manager and Addresses and more if you want to disable autocomplete for these options too

How to Clear Existing Autofill Data in Chrome (iPhone)

  • Open Chromium Appendix
  • Click 3 points in the lower right corner of the screen
  • Scroll down a bit and select Clear browsing data
  • Adjust the time range at the top of the screen to say All time
  • Make sure Autocomplete data marked
  • Choose Clear browsing data, then Clear browsing data again to confirm

On Mac

How to remove autocomplete in Safari (Mac)

  • Open Safari
  • At the very top of the screen, next to the Apple icon, click Safari
  • Click Settings
  • Choose Autocomplete
  • Uncheck Usernames and passwordsas well as any options for which you don’t want Safari to store autofill information.

  • Open Safari
  • At the very top of the screen, next to the Apple icon, click Safari
  • Choose Pure history
  • in Clear menuChoose whole story
  • Choose Pure history

On iPhone

  • Open Settings
  • Choose Safari
  • Under General tab, select Autocomplete
  • Switch off options for Use contact information and Credit cards

  • Open Safari
  • Click the icon in the bottom right corner that looks like open book
  • In the lower right corner, select Clear
  • Choose All time and press Made

  • Open fire fox
  • Press on 3 lines in the upper right corner of the screen
  • Choose Settings
  • Choose Privacy & Security
  • Under Forms and autofilluncheck the options for which you want to disable autocomplete.

  • Open fire fox
  • Press on 3 lines in the upper right corner of the screen
  • Choose Settings
  • Choose Privacy & Security
  • Under Logins and passwordsuncheck Ask to save logins and passwords for sites.
  • To clear saved logins and passwords, click Saved Logins
  • Delete any logins you don’t want to save

On iPhone

  • Open Firefox app
  • Click 3 horizontal lines in the lower right corner
  • Choose Settings
  • Under Confidentiality, click Data management
  • Choose Clear personal data and press GOOD to confirm

  • Open Firefox app
  • Click 3 horizontal lines in the lower right corner
  • Choose History
  • Click trash can icon bottom left
  • Choose Everybody and press Made

Microsoft Edge

On Mac

How to remove autofill in Microsoft Edge (Mac)

  • Open Microsoft Edge
  • Press on 3 points in the upper right corner of the screen
  • Choose Settings
  • Menu should be default Profiles. If not, select this option from menu on the left.
  • in Your profile chapter, switch off Passwords, billing information, and any other settings that you don’t want to be filled in automatically.
