Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki open up about their off-screen romance like never before in a new oral history about The Big Bang Theory. The actors, who dated from 2006 to 2008, detail how they fell in love, who took the first step and why they eventually broke up in the upcoming book The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive Inside Story of the Epic Beating Series.

“I was so in love with Johnny early on. I didn’t even hide it. He had such bravado. We were dating people at the time, but I only focused on Johnny. Then, when I found out he had my eyes too, I was like uh‑oh, that’s going to be a problem,” Cuoco shares an excerpt obtained by Vanity Fair. Galecki says he “didn’t have a clue what kind of crush it was before Callie and I started dating.”

Coco and Galecki’s characters, Penny and Leonard, kiss for the first time in episode 6 of the show’s first season. This was the first time the actors also locked lips.

“All the scenes until we actually met in real life, it was always clear there was something. There was harmony and we were crushing on each other. That was the entire first season until we actually met,” Coco recalls, admitting that she was “nervous.” Very” when they kissed her on the Halloween episode.

“I mean, I was kissing him as Penny before we dated him, which is weird when you have a crush on someone and you kiss them as actors,” she explains. While it took months before they finally kissed the camera, it soon became apparent – even to Galecki – they were in touch.

While filming the episode “The Nerdvana Annihilation” later in the first season, Cuoco and Galecki had to film a dream sequence that Leonard Penny saves in an elevator shaft.

“It was not a pleasant experience for me,” Coco says.

“We had to be in each other’s arms — and for a while, because it was kind of a trick we were doing,” Galecki recalls. “That was definitely one of the moments I think was-“

“I think we fell in love a little bit in the elevator well,” Coco interjects.

“We felt something, yeah. I think that was a huge turning point [in our relationship]. At that point, she and I knew that something was mutual, and that it would be a distraction from work and trying to keep ignoring it instead of actually getting to know it and giving in to it,” Galecki confirms.

Coco eventually broke up with her boyfriend, and hours after their breakup, she joined Galecki and the rest of the cast on a trip to Montecito, California. They all had separate booths, but the actress tried to get Galecki to Galecki by calling and asking him to come and kill an insect.

“Now, to this day, I still don’t know if this story was nonsense or not, and whether she was flirting with me because she had just broken up with her boyfriend, but I didn’t go to her cottage,” Galecki declares.

“There was definitely something wrong with my room and I was kidding with him! So they were both right! Oh, that might be a good way to get it in there! But that didn’t work, Coco laughs. I couldn’t believe he rejected me. I still think he turned me down because he knew what I was doing. I used the insect as an excuse, and he hasn’t come yet.”

Galecki ended up making the first move not long after that trip when he invited Coco to meet for a glass of wine.

“We started kissing in the bar area, and then we’d kiss in the parking lot. Johnny could really spin his head and want to hide, while I’m just the opposite. I was going to tell everyone the next day at the table read. I was going to announce it and I said, we are together! But he said, “We can’t tell anyone!” So we kept calm,” Coco recalls. And don’t forget, it was different back then. Social media wasn’t anywhere like it is now, so it was easier to keep it hidden. You didn’t know as much about people as you do now. It’s a different world.”

The cast finally told the cast and crew and no one was surprised. Galecki and Cuoco’s relationship was serious—”Kali and I thought about marriage,” he says at one point—but his need for privacy ultimately contributed to the pair’s breakup.

“We are from completely different worlds, but we also seem to melt into each other’s worlds in certain ways. It was very fun teaching each other different things, but then when I came to wanting different things, that made things more complicated,” Galecki explains. .

“I think one of the things that created a chasm between us was the strict privacy policies, and Cali being very, very open about her life. I wasn’t very comfortable talking about it, and I think it hurt Cali’s feelings a little bit a bit, and I can understand that,” he continues. “It certainly wasn’t because I was embarrassed by her or our relationship, but I wanted to be preemptive from public acceptance of Penny and Leonard, and without distraction from the tabloids.”

Galecki continues, “I’m a private person in general, but that made me particularly worried because we were working together, and the show was kind of on the rise at the time in terms of viewing. And at some point I felt like we were living this as a lie because we’d be giving away shows and jobs and pretending we weren’t a couple, While in reality we were a very loving couple.”

While Galecki says they had “very different interests in what I think we wanted from our experience in life,” that didn’t stop them from becoming close friends after the breakup.

“I adore friends as we are. I think I might value my relationship with her more than any previous relationship or relationship after that,” he shares.

Coco didn’t seem to disagree with his stance on the breakup, but he did add more context.

“We ran out of things to talk about Johnny and I too, because we’ve been at work all day, and then we’ll go back to one of our places together, and say, ‘So how was your day? Simon was funny today, right? And we were laughing because we didn’t have any ambiguity,” she recalls.

“But we’ve been together for a long time. We really adored each other, and we were lucky because while the breakup was happening, there wasn’t any naughty play, there wasn’t anything bad in our relationship… It just ended,” Coco continues. “Yes, there was some hurt there for a while, but it didn’t take long for us to get back to where we were before we were dating and being friends. He was front row at my wedding, and we’ve been supportive of each other ever since. We adore each other. “.

Galecki still keeps his private life a secret. The actor separated from model Alaina Meyer in 2020. They share one son. As for Cuoco, she’s dating Ozark Actor Tom Belfry. They walked the red carpet together at the 2022 Emmy Awards, so it seems like they don’t disagree about opening up about their relationship.
