Razzie removes Ryan child star Keira Armstrong from the Worst Actress nominees

The Razzies have apologized and removed child actor Ryan Kiera Armstrong from their annual list of nominees.

Armstrong was nominated this week for worst actress for her performance in “Firestarter” by The Golden Raspberry Awards (the official name for the Razzies), a self-proclaimed Hollywood awards satire that celebrates the best in cinema.

There was such a backlash considering Armstrong is only 12 years old.

“Sometimes, you do things without thinking, and then you get called upon to do it. Then you get it. That’s why Razzies were created in the first place,” Razzies co-founder John B. Wilson said in a statement Wednesday.

The statement continued, “The recent valid criticism of the selection of 11-year-old Armstrong as a nominee for one of our awards has brought to our attention just how insensitive we are in this case.” As a result, we’ve removed Armstrong’s name from the final ballot our members will cast next month. We also believe a public apology is due to Ms. Armstrong, and we would like to say that we regret any harm you have suffered as a result of our choices.”

According to the group, the Razzies will only nominate those 18 or older moving forward.

“We never intended to bury anyone’s career. That is why the Redeemer Award was created,” the statement said. “We all make mistakes, including many of us. Since our motto is “own your bad,” we know we must also live up to that.”

CNN has reached out to Armstrong’s representatives for comment.
