Samsung is introducing two rugged smart devices – Galaxy XCover6 Pro and Galaxy Tab Active4 Pro – to support frontline and field workers in the US.
The global mobile and tablet market has seen tremendous growth in recent years, with Samsung and Apple being the key players. While Apple is the market leader in phones and tablets in the US, Samsung has grown in popularity over the past decade, so they are not far behind.
A recent report by Statista showed that Samsung smartphone sales in the US market is 30%, and the US tablet market share increased from 7.3% in the last quarter of 2012 to 18.1% in the second quarter of 2022.
In an effort to push further into the U.S. smartphone and tablet market, Samsung Electronics America has announced its latest 5G-enabled Android rugged devices, the Galaxy XCover6 Pro and Galaxy Tab Active4 Pro.
Devices to support demanding business environments
The Galaxy XCover6 Pro smartphone and Galaxy Tab Active4 Pro tablet are designed to improve worker productivity, especially for those working in high-risk and mission-critical industries. These devices are designed to support today’s most demanding businesses with enhanced mobility, 5G connectivity, end-to-end security, reliability and durability.

Samsung claims that reliability and intelligent connectivity are at the heart of both devices and have capabilities that can help workers in challenging environments.
“We created the Galaxy XCover6 Pro and Galaxy Tab Active4 Pro with field and frontline workers in mind, including the unique challenges they face on the job,” said Chris Balczyk, vice president and head of mobile B2B at Samsung Electronics America. “With a rugged, water-resistant design, replaceable batteries and 5G connectivity, these devices help frontline and field workers get the job done from anywhere they have connectivity, whether on their feet, in trucks or in stores.”
With this announcement, Samsung hopes to meet the mobile technology needs of frontline workers in demanding industries such as construction, healthcare, oil and gas, and manufacturing.
New Samsung Rugged Devices
Samsung has announced that the Galaxy XCover6Pro is a rugged device designed primarily for corporate and industrial use. The device comes with a Gorilla Glass Victus+ display that allows users to operate the device with wet hands or gloves.
In addition, since the device is designed for heavy-duty applications, it also features IP68 dust resistance and a removable battery, which ensures that users can always have an alternative when charging the battery becomes impossible. While this device has debuted in other markets, it will arrive in the US on October 22nd.
The second device released at launch is the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active4 Pro. Samsung explained that this rugged tablet is equipped with a TFT LCD screen protected by Gorilla Glass 5. Through a series of rigorous MIL-STD environmental tests, this device withstands immersion in water, humidity, altitude, salt fog. , vibrations, dust and drops up to a meter high.
Both devices have similar features as they are built for the same purpose. Although both devices have replaceable batteries, the tablet is designed to work without a battery. It has a feature that allows it to be powered by a car or kiosk if no other battery is available.
In addition, both devices support 5G and have programmable buttons that can act as a shortcut to launch apps or features. At launch, Samsung announced that both products would soon be available through Amazon Business, IT channel partners, and the Samsung website.
Why Samsung might be joining the secure smart mobile device market
There is a growing demand for secure mobile devices for mission-critical and non-critical tasks and work environments. Industries such as transportation and logistics, retail, construction, warehousing and military services are areas of work where rugged smartphones and tablets can have the most use.
A recent study of the rugged phone market size by revenue, market share, growth and trends shows that the global rugged phone market size is estimated at $2.9 billion in 2021 and is expected to reach $4.8 billion by 2028 with a cumulative annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.5% over the forecast period.
It may also explain why Samsung is joining a slew of other global rugged smartphone and tablet makers to boost the productivity of the frontline workforce across industries. Some of the key players in the rugged phone market are Juniper Systems, Blackview, DOOGEE, OUKITEL, Caterpillar, AGM Mobile, and Sonim Technologies.
Although Samsung has made a name for itself in the mobile technology market, the release of the Samsung Galaxy XCover6 Pro and Galaxy Tab Active4 Pro cannot guarantee its dominance in the rugged smartphone market, as the market is full of other rugged phones. Some of the products include Kyocera DuraSport 5G, Cat S52, Cat S62 Pro, UniHertz AtomXL and Sonim XP8.
