The Colombian star launched it all on the long-awaited track with leading producer Bizarab
Argentinian producer BZRP has a way of disarming artists during the popular BZRP music sessions on YouTube. The viral series featured names like Residente, Paulo Londra, and Villano Antillano — all guys who took the mic and let everything beat to futuristic Bizarrap beats.
However, no one expected global powerhouse Shakira to unleash the way she did at BZRP’s latest music session. In fact, fans couldn’t believe it when Bizarab announced on Tuesday that the Colombian star would be the final guest star on his musical series, and the countdown quickly began until the YouTube video was released.
It finally came on Wednesday night and it delivered as expected. Through an electronic beat, Shakira reminds people of the superstar she is and talks about her split from soccer player Gerard Pique – the couple split last year after 11 years of relationship. “Una loba como yo no esta pa’ tipos como tu (A wolf like me is not for men like you),” she declares, referring to her 2009 blockbuster “She Wolf.”
“I won’t get back with you, not if you cry, not even if you ask me,” she sings in Spanish in one of her most heartbreaking lines. “Obviously it’s not my fault if they criticize you. I’m just playing music, sorry if I stain you.” She finally paused, emphasizing the “pique” in the Spanish word for “salpique” — an apparent reference to her ex-husband.
The song is Shakira’s latest release and follows her collaboration with Ozuna “Monotonía” which was released last October. The video also touched on the breakup, as it shows Shakira walking the streets with a hole in her chest while people around her stomp on her heart. Ahead, Shakira dropped “Te Felecito,” an upbeat ballad featuring Rauw Alejandro. The song, released in April of last year, hit number one on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart — and it signaled Shakira’s back in the studio working on new music. Fans are expecting a new album this year.
