Symbolism of Kate Middleton’s dress at Queen Elizabeth’s funeral

Long live the happy memories of Queen Elizabeth.

Kate Middleton paid a touching tribute to her late grandmother with a private outfit at Monday’s state funeral for Queen Elizabeth II, who died on September 8 at the age of 96.

The new Princess of Wales brought back the same poncho dress that Alexander McQueen wore at June’s Trooping the Color events during the Platinum Jubilee – wearing a black version of the delicate piece she wore in white to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s 70 years on the throne.

The one-breasted blazer dress features a full skirt and two buttons at the waist and is a custom piece from the British designer, where the princess first wore the white version at the G7 Summit in 2021.

While she opted for an elegant blue and white hat and sapphire and diamond earrings that belonged to Princess Diana for her jubilee ensemble, the 40-year-old went with sentimental pieces from the late king for funerals yesterday in London and Windsor.

Dressed in a black wide-brimmed Philip Treacy hat and a dramatic veil, Middleton wore pearls and diamonds for the Queen – the same jewelry she wrote at Prince Philip’s funeral in 2021.

Queen Elizabeth chose a four-strand pearl necklace with a diamond clasp, Bahrain pearl earrings with drops of pearls and diamonds and a four-strand pearl bracelet from Her Majesty’s collection.

The Princess of Wales – who brought Prince George, 9, and Princess Charlotte, 7, to honor their great-grandmother – added black tights and black Gianvito Rossi heels to complete her look.

Little Charlotte also did her part in honoring Queen Elizabeth with her dress, pinning a diamond horseshoe brooch to her coat that was said to have been a gift from the late king.

The Princess of Wales and her family have canceled their previously planned public engagements – including Prince William’s trip to New York City this week – following the death of Queen Elizabeth II as the royal family remains in a period of official mourning.
