Todd Bowles: There has been no decision on Byron Leftwich’s future

There was speculation the Buccaneers would fire offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich after Tampa Bay struggled with the unit in 2022.

But the organization hasn’t quite made that decision or at least isn’t ready to announce it.

At his season-ending press conference, head coach Todd Bowles was asked if he was going to let Leftwich go.

“No, there was no decision,” Bowles said.

As a follow-up, Bowles was asked what his assessment of Leftwich’s performance was and said he currently has none.

“We evaluate the players. We will meet as a coaching team later in the week and I will meet with individual coaches as well as the staff – which we do every year – and we will do those evaluations then.

“I don’t want to sit here and say we’re talking about things that I haven’t even discussed with my coaches. We do our annual evaluation as we do with the players.

The Buccaneers finished 15th in total yards but only 25th in runs scored. While the club was No. 2 in passing, it trailed dead last in rushing yards and 3.4 yards per carry.

Whether or not Tom Brady returns to the franchise in 2023, the Bucs will need to be much more consistent offensively to compete for a championship.
