Will MARTY FRIEDMAN play with MEGADETH at the Tokyo concert next month?

According to the MEGADETH Megadeth Of Destruction fan page, former MEGADETH guitarist Marty Friedmann has strongly hinted that he will join the band on stage during the Dave Mustaine-Facade ensemble concert at Nippon Budokan in Tokyo, Japan on February 27.

While appearing on the Japanese radio show “The next guitar hero is…” in interfm897the 60 year old Friedmann —who has lived and recorded music in Japan since 2003—said: “I can’t give details. But we will play together… I think it will be a magical night.” martyJapan’s comments were also reportedly picked up by Burn! magazine in an article that has apparently been removed from the site.

Yes Friedmannperformance of with MEGADETH materializes, it will be his first appearance with the band since he left the group in 2000.

mustaine has apparently been on good terms with Friedmann in recent years, with the MEGADETH leader declaring at a Cameo video (see below) that I had talked to marty as recently as last New Years Eve.

Three years ago, Friedmann admitted that money was a great motivator for him when he was asked to participate in a meeting of MEGADETH‘s “Rust At Peace” line up.

Friedmann had met with mustaine and then bassist david elefson in 2015 NAMM show in Anaheim, California to discuss the meeting, which would have seen him and the drummer Nick Menza back in the mix.

Friedmann opened up about his reasons for rejecting the MEGADETH meeting in mustainethe last book of “Rust In Peace: The Inside Story of Megadeth’s Masterpiece”detailing the making of the iconic record “Rust At Peace”.

“The main thing was that I’d be happy to do it, but I’m not going to take less money than I’m already making to do it.” marty said in part.

“I had been in Japan for over ten years cultivating a career with solid rewards. I was making money not only for myself but also for my management and staff. My manager has been with me for fifteen years.

“Everything was solid and solid professionally, and when the offer came I suddenly joined MEGADETH again, as long as I didn’t make less money, I was ready to go for it,” he said. “But I certainly wasn’t going to accept a loss to join a band that, frankly, at the time, didn’t seem like they had much to offer musically. A couple of the band members had recently left, and musically I hadn’t heard anything they had done in a long time. He didn’t know how relevant they were still in the music business. it was not like MEGADETH it was on the tip of people’s tongues, at least not in Japan. It had gotten to the point where people immediately stopped connecting with me. MEGADETH and they were talking about the things he had done in Japan.”

According to Friedmannpart of the reason why he rejected the MEGADETH meeting is the fact that the group is largely seen as mustaineThe solo project of, with members coming and going every couple of albums.

“If it had been more of a gang situation and not a one man, Dave Mustaine-main party, might have considered doing it for a little less”, marty saying. “But, at the end of the day, MEGADETH it’s so much mustaine because that’s the way he designed it. I didn’t feel that kind of camaraderie, the four-man diamond, THE BEATLES, KISS, METALLIC. I felt like I was going to go out and tour and it was going to be mustaineit is a great success. If I’m going to do that, I’m certainly not going to waste money doing it; I was doing very well on my own in Japan.”

marty has a really successful career in Japan, where he makes a lot of money,” dave saying. “And this is the part where I thought he was a little weird, where he said he had to pay his entire team while he was gone, instead of just himself. Because I thought we’d pay you what you’re making.” so that’s changing horses in the middle of the river, not a big deal unless you fall off. And then when we found out he wanted to sell his merchandise, his this, his that, his this, his that, then he wanted this an unbelievable amount of money and he wanted to fly first class everywhere. I told our management, ‘I can’t deal with this.'”

In a 2016 interview with the “Eddie Trunk Podcast”, mustaine confirmed that MEGADETH did not perform any tests with Friedmann while attempting a meeting of the “Rust At Peace” line up.

marty had sent out a few emails saying, ‘Oh man, you know, fans have this self-inflated importance of ‘Rust in peace’ beyond what it really is. And I was like, ‘Huh?'” dave saying. “So, I didn’t know if that was a setback in the fans’ face or not, but he basically said that if we were going to do something, it had to be better than ‘Rust in peace’. And he sent me some links to some songs that she thought should be the direction we were going, and one of them was this J-Pop band with a Japanese girl singing, and I was like, ‘Uh-uh. This is not going to work. more power to [Marty for being into that stuff]. Do what you want, marty. He is a great guitarist. But I’m not going to sing like a Japanese girl.”

Today, Dave uploaded a video on Cameo commenting that he had recently spoken to Marty Friedman and implying that he greeted him for New Years. This would indicate good news?

In late August 2022, Mustaine claimed that Friedman accepted the invitation to play with Megadeth the next time the band toured Japan. Later, in the first days of September, the production company UDO confirmed two Megadeth concerts in Japan (February 27 and 28, 2023) and the tickets went on sale that same month.

Recently, the official Megadeth website confirmed a third concert in Tokyo (Japan), for February 24.

The funny thing is that Marty will be free precisely at the end of February 2023, since on March 3 he will start his tour of the United States.
