‘World class’ Kane will break all records, says Conte

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte has backed Harry Kane to continue breaking goalscoring records as the striker looks to surpass Jimmy Greaves as the club’s all-time top scorer.

Kane is one of Greaves’ 266 goals for Tottenham and could break the record in style in the north London derby against Arsenal on Sunday.

The England captain also moved level with Wayne Rooney as the country’s joint top scorer during the World Cup when he scored his 53rd international goal.

Kane has 17 goals in all competitions for Tottenham this season and Conte expects him to break more milestones in the future.

“We are talking about a world-class striker and for sure he is going to break all records,” Conte told reporters on Friday.

“I think he deserves it, but I always want to emphasize the other aspect, the human aspect of Harry.

“We are not only talking about a world-class striker, but also about a very good man, a very good person and for us he is an important reference.

“I’m sure he’s going to break this record and he’s doing something incredible.”

Kane has had to carry an even heavier burden than usual for Tottenham this season due to injuries to Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison, as well as poor form to Son Heung-min.

Conte is confident Kulusevski will face Premier League leaders Arsenal again at the weekend, but was more cautious about the potential to bring Richarlison and Rodrigo Bentancur back into action.

“For Kulusevski, he had a training session in the last few days with us. I think he will be ready to play,” Conte added.

“About Richy and Rodrigo, both situations are improving. For us it is very important to be patient, especially since they are important players for a long period.

“Accelerating the process to risk recovery and losing them again for a long time is not good, it is not positive.”
