YMO Drummer/Vocalist Yukihiro Takahashi Passes Away – News

Yukihiro TakahashiMusician best known as the drummer and lead vocalist for the world-renowned group Yellow Magic Orchestra (AND MO), died on January 11 of aspiration pneumonia due to a brain tumor. She was 70 years old.

Takahashi announced in 2020 that he had surgery for a brain tumor and had been receiving treatment ever since.

Takahashi was born in Tokyo and was already working as a studio musician while still in high school. During college, he first performed as the drummer for the Sadistic Mika Band (which the late kazuhiko katoh founded in 1972), and the band later toured in the UK and other countries.

Takahashi then formed AND MO with haruomi hosono Y ryuichi sakamoto in 1978. AND MOThe pioneering synthesizer-infused technopop sound became popular not only in Japan, but also on tours abroad. His hits include the signature song “Rydeen” and the 1981 albums background music Y technodelic. In addition to playing drums and singing for the group, Takahashi also spearheaded the stage fashion for him, as evidenced by iconic Chinese-inspired red ensembles.
