A day after the launch of the RTX 40 “Ada” series, some interesting details are revealed.

NVIDIA AIC partners are reluctant to share details about RTX 40 card designs. NVIDIA clearly has some embargoes in place at the moment, which is usually the case before the product is reviewed. Because of this, we haven’t seen any RTX 4090 board designs yet, and no real images of the AD102 GPU are available.

Interestingly, ZOTAC is showing off its board in a quick preview of the AMP Extreme AIRO, this company’s flagship RTX 4090. What’s even more intriguing is that the demo shows a completely different GPU, the GA102 from the RTX 30 “Ampere” series.

Instead of blurring this part or hiding the GPU completely, ZOTAC confirms that the RTX 4090 has the GA102-350 GPU in this demo (not for the final product). This could be a confirmation of early RTX 40 rumors that the RTX 3090 Ti was a test vehicle for the new series. In some early stages, board partners were using GA102 with 450W BIOSes for RTX 40 development.

With the new cards supposedly using very similar board designs, the GPU may actually be compatible with the AD102 pin. This would explain how the ZOTAC marketing department would have missed the fact that they are actually showing the wrong GPU here.
